I have always enjoyed sketching and finally decided to take an industrial design rapid visualization course.  Mechanical engineering and industrial design are in some ways similar and in others very different.  Engineering often tends to shy away from ambiguity; ID embraces it.  It was enlightening to see product design from a different perspective.  It was challenging to let go of the feeling that a sketch had to be perfect, and instead focus on how to use sketching as a medium to convey an idea.  We covered 1 and 2 point perspective, lineweight, form, shadow, shading, reflection, and composition.  It still might be a while before I can create masterpieces, but I feel much more prepared to communicate ideas through sketching.
